Iceland

If you’re not a fan of warm holidays, you don’t particularly enjoy lazing on beaches or you just want something a little bit different, why not try holidaying in Iceland? With its breathtaking scenery and fascinating culture, you won’t be disappointed.

Did you know..?
Iceland’s official name is ‘Republic of Iceland’?

The official language is Icelandic? (English is, however, widely spoken and understood)
Iceland is on GMT and does not go on to daylight saving time?

Iceland has less than three people per square kilometer, but is ranked at the top of the United Nations Human Development Index and is also considered one of the ‘greenest’ countries in the world. With roots deep in folklore, tales have been passed down from generation to generation and make for some fascinating study. Icelandic authors, in fact, publish more books than any other country in the world.
In spite of the name, ice actually only covers about 10% of the land but you will find some of Europes largest remaining glaciers along with frequent volcanic activity. A lot of land formed in Iceland has been the result of the Earths plates moving and causing lava to erupt onto the surface, cool, and form new land with Iceland experiencing volcanic activity about every five years.

The country was settled in the ninth century, and the only native land animal was the adorable arctic fox. Now, thanks to domestic animals remaining more or less unchanged, the wildlife is as rich and varied as you would expect to find in a hardy country. Even polar bears occasionally visit!

Iceland is a beautiful place, but it is hardy and still wild. For piece of mind, the best travel insurance you can buy would be a good investment. Shop around, there are some great deals online, even some that can be added to your existing policy.
