The Delights of Dubai
For some people, Dubai is the only place they will ever go on holiday. Eschewing all other countries and experiences, they will go to Dubai every year, or more often if they can afford to do so.
But why? Well, Dubai is known primarily for its wealth and abundance of designer shops combined with glorious weather and sandy beaches. It’s situated on the South coast of the Persian Gulf, part of the United Emirates. It’s a great place to go during our Winter, since temperatures in, say, November are around 30C.
There are top-class, luxury hotels aplenty (and we really do mean luxury) as well as more affordable accommodation to suit most budgets. It is the destination of choice for wealthy people of Arabian and Western heritage, and retailers are keen to tailor for those with deep pockets – although there are always bargains to be found, especially since shopping there is tax-free!
Flight time from the UK is just under seven hours. But it’s worth it for the amazing sights, and to experience things like camel rides across the desert. If you enjoy golf, why not combine your holiday with a few rounds at one of their world-famous courses? Many package deals will offer rounds of golf as part of the price if that’s what you’re looking for.
There beaches and water parks in Dubai are ideal for a family break, too. The Jumeirah Beach park is probably one of the nicest for families as it includes not only white sand and clear blue sea but also a green grassy area if you want to sit in the shade for a while. The Wild Wadi Water Park is excellent and offers a massive range of slides and rides for the whole family to enjoy.
If shopping is your thing, then you can choose between the modern shopping centres and the ‘souks’, which are markets that are found all over Dubai, each specialising in different wares, such as spices/food or textiles, for instance. Be prepared to barter!
Enjoy your holiday but make sure that you are fully aware of the laws of the country, especially those relating to morality and decency, since they differ dramatically from our own. Punishment for transgressions are severe so be sure that you know the law before you travel.
